Daniel 1-3 pt. 2: Burn Us Up

There are only a few artists who can write really compelling story songs. Shane Barnard is one of those artists. On Shane and Shane’s 4th(?) album, Pages, there is a song that tells the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. It’s masterfully written and gets to the heart of the story. These three faithful men were ready to die rather than forsake the Lord their God.

This song always brings to mind those Christians who have left their homes at great cost to themselves in order to see the kingdom of God go forward in the world through the preaching of the Gospel in previously unreached areas. The title for such people is “fronteer missionary”. They risk everything, ready and willing to die in order that the Gospel might be heard.

Every person who goes into such a life, and every person who faces death because of the cause of Christ shares the same Spirit as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and they are worthy of our respect and honor.

Here is an acoustic version of this song. I would also recommend getting the album, it’s one of the best around.
