The Proverbs are filled with wisdom for many areas of life. God has graciously placed this book in the Bible so that we might grow in our wisdom and discernment. And in the midst of all this wonderful, practical advice for life, God reminds us of the power of His wisdom. Take a look at Proverbs 3:19-20:
The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
by understanding he established the heavens;
by his knowledge the deeps broke open,
and the clouds drop down the dew.
This is a beautiful reminder to us of Christ, who is revealed in the New Testament to be both “the Wisdom and the Power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24)and the One through Whom all things were made (John 1:2). God’s wisdom, the wisdom that He showed in creating the entire universe, the wisdom that established the heavens and the great depths of the earth, has been revealed to us most vividly and perfectly in the person of Jesus Christ. And not just in His person, but in His death.
The substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ is foolish in the eyes of the world, but it is the wisdom and the power of God to those who are being saved. In other words, it is the Gospel. For the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe, and in the Gospel, God’s wisdom is most greatly and beautifully displayed.
