Joshua 19-21: God is Faithful

After several chapters that carefully lay out the inheritance that the people of Israel received, we read these words at the end of Joshua 21:

Thus the LORD gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled there. And the LORD gave them rest on every side just as he had sworn to their fathers. Not one of all their enemies had withstood them, for the LORD had given all their enemies into their hands. Not one word of all the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.

This is always true of God; not one thing He sets out to do is left unaccomplished. He gives His people an inheritance beyond measure, rest from striving and wandering, victory over their enemies, and promises that never fail. And we who are in Christ are the recipients of this great faithfulness.

This passage causes me to rejoice. How about you?

One Response to Joshua 19-21: God is Faithful

    Pastor Chris,

I was seeing the same thing when I read this earlier today. I saw all the borders and lands and I thought it is just what was promised from a surveyor’s perspective and even that the leftovers were distributed and nothing wasted. Just like John 6:10-12 so that nothing will be lost. What sovereignty, majesty and faithfulness. Thanks Pastor Chris.
